For the first time Apple has released a beta version of its iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad. With iOS 9 Apple is getting more people to try and test the new enhancements. This will provide Apple with more robust feedbacks to iron out any flaws before iOS 9 goes for release. If we look into release history of iOS this time also Apple is going to release iOS 9 by mid-September.
Now coming on to this public beta, you don’t need to use ‘Apple Pay’ to use this feature just follow some instructions given below and you will be testing out the next version of mobile OS from the Cupertino company. Before I explain the way to be public beta tester I should warn you of something, this is a pre-release software and not the one early access program. So be aware of this fact, and as you know beta means beta, there will be bugs and some headaches ;). If you are ready for a bit of a roller coaster ride on your iPhone or iPad and want to get your hands dirty by doing some extra bits of work to get your hands on iOS 9 before all your friends does then do continue your read here. But if you don’t want to be bothered with giving feedback about bugs and want to be away from annoyances then also you continue here reading, so may be if one of your known wants to try this our you can guide them here to know more about the procedure .
Before starting the actual procedure I would again warn you do not repeat do not install this on your primary device which you use for all your communications.
Now we finally come on to how to get iOS 9 public beta for your iPhone or iPad. First things first you need to take back up of your iPhone your iPad. Taking backup of your phone from time to time is necessary. And since in this case we are going for a beta testing of an OS, it is better to be safe than sorry with your personal data at risk. This backup will be used in case you want to revert back to iOS 8.4 from iOS 9 (hope you all are updated to the latest update of iOS 8.4 with APPLE MUSIC).
How to back-up your device
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC ( all included widows, mac, laptops)
- Start iTunes software.
- When the icon for your device appears in menu bar, click it.
- Before backing up please check backup is set to ‘This Computer’, and also make sure to enable the Encrypted backup.
- Just click on Back Up Now, click on Encrypt Backup, you can add a password and I would request you to please add a password.
- You will get asked to backup apps, if you want which I am sure you’ll click Back Up Apps.
Your device is backed up, next thing you have to do is archive this backup. In the iTunes menu bar click on Preferences and click on Devices, now select your Backup and choose Archive.
Now you may be asking why to archive your backup it is so as to prevent any iOS 9 backup to overwrite your iOS 8.4 backup, and is available for you if and when you want to come back to the signed version of OS.
Next step is to register for iOS 9 public beta. For that you’ll be required to sign up with your Apple ID.
Click on install it will prompt you to enter your password. Click twice on install after reading through terms and conditions for beta testing. When prompted for restart click on it and your device will reboot. When the device restarts iOS 9 beta will start downloading by itself.
After completion of download you will get a notification about download completing and ready to install, or you can go to Software Update in Settings menu and Install it from there. Click on Install Now, enter password and accept twice to begin the installation of iOS 9 beta, just sit back and relax till this is completed.
Once the installation is done device will restart with iOS 9 beta, you need to setup the device and will be required to login again, with your Apple ID and password, as iCloud settings are done just wait for few moments. Once it’s done you are ready to use Apple’s first public beta mobile OS iOS 9.
For features of iOS 9 beta I am still myself in testing mode and will soon bring to you the new features and issues so stay tuned.
