In a world where technology has touched us in the most unimaginable ways, we have devices which can sense our mood , help us discover the causes and give an insight into ourselves.
Many of us must have heard of mood rings or may have been an owner of one. For those who may not be aware, a mood ring is a ring containing an element which changes colour based upon the temperature of the finger of the wearer. The colour is an indication of the mood of the wearer. Say if it’s blue the wearer is happy , if it’s black it indicates that the wearer is stressed . Though these rings cannot reflect accurately, they are only an indication of the reaction of the body to the emotional state of the wearer. The mood rings were a popular fad during mid 1970’s.
We also have a myriad of mood tracking apps- iMood Journal, T2 Mood Tracker, Moodtrack Diary to name a few. These apps are extremely helpful in managing one’s mental health and improving one’s lifestyle.
Here once again , we have at the gates of our tech-savvy world , another addition to the gadgets available to us to make our lives better, healthier and happier. ‘Feel’ is next generation of the mood trackers which can indicate the emotions of the wearer more precisely and do a plenty of other things than its predecessors.
A prototype of ‘Feel’ was unveiled by New York based startup Sentio Solutions at CES 2016 in Las Vegas . This mood tracker has been designed as a simple wristband which resembles widely used fitness trackers . However, it can monitor the emotions and stress levels in real time and also make suggestions to make your mood better.
You must be inquisitive about how a small wristband can do such a mighty job. The Feel wristband uses a series of sensors to record blood volume pulse, skin temperature and galvanic skin response biometric data. This recorded data is then sent to the Feel Companion app via Bluetooth where it is processed by means of inbuilt algorithms to indicate the mood of the wearer over the entire day and it can be graphically displayed.
The Feel wristband not only monitors the mood of the wearer, it also helps in making the mood better or reducing the stress levels by rendering advice such as ‘relax’ or ‘meditate’. It helps you in understanding how your surroundings or your thoughts affect you like your reaction after having a tasty meal or the stress generated for meeting a deadline at work or at a disagreement with the boss and how you can keep these stress levels under check. It also gives vibrating alerts when you cross a certain harmful threshold of stress and suggests valuable breathing and meditation exercises to relieve the stress.
Well, the benefits of this brilliant device does not end here. You can also set up an emotional wellness plan to keep healthy habits that will improve your mental health in long run and you can keep track of your long term emotional goals by means of this device.
The claims made by Sentio definitely turns the heads around. But can a wristband improve your emotional health or make you happier? Will the Feel live upto the expectations already set or the claims made will prove to be deceptive or will it become just another fad? We need to have our hands on the Feel before these questions can be answered.
The Feel wristband is expected to enter into the markets by the end of this year. It will come into four colours namely red, black, white and turquoise. Sentio’s slogan for the Feel is “Hack Happiness”. So are you ready for it?
