‘Winter is coming’, TV series Game of Throne fans love these three words, there have been countless memes using these words. The words have become so popular that even people who haven’t watched this epic serial know about this. You must be thinking what these words have to do it with the current article, it doesn’t but similar to these ‘September is coming’ is a pretty big thing for Apple and its fans. This is time Cupertino-based company showcases its latest hardware for the coming year. Apple fans are always so excited about this and are so enthusiast that as soon as the latest iPhone is launched there starts talk of the ‘next’ one and what it would be like. Oh! Maybe iPhone 7 Pro is coming. Surprised and Excited? You should be 🙂
The cult following has been part of human nature for long, be it for a star footballer like Maradona, a rock star singer like Kurt Cobain or for a smart businessman like Steve Jobs who turned Apple into the most profitable and cherished company around the globe. And how did he do it, it was the ‘iPhone’, the device which not only brought back Apple to fore of tech world but also changed the direction of the smartphone industry forever.
This year is too nothing is going to change, Apple has showcased its iOS 10 update at the recently concluded WWDC, and now the fans and the tech industry are waiting and making wild guesses at what the Cupertino giant would be bringing with its latest iPhones.
Last year there were rumours of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus getting a new touch technology, and when Apple launched the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus last year the company brought 3D touch (force touch) technology to the world. This time too, we are seeing many leaked photos and rumours flying around the web for this year iPhones. There are again expected to be two models one with 4.7” screen and the other with a bigger 5.5” screen.
Will the company follow the pattern of past two years and name the latest phones as iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus or could it be called iPhone 7 Pro? Yes, iPhone 7 Pro! I am not making up this name; this could happen no one knows as of now for sure except the people working on the next iPhone and Apple’s management team.
Past few days, leaks for the new iPhone have been coming in, I was tempted to put out a blog regarding these Apple leaks. But then the leaks were coming thick and fast, so instead of writing a separate article for each leak I thought of combining them in a single blog for easier reading so you people don’t have to read the same leak over and over again. So are you ready for the ride? I am not just going to put only leaks but sometimes I will take your down the memory lane for the older generation iPhone. Welcome on board 🙂
iPhone 7 Pro with Apple Pencil
Now this part here is just my hunch, so bear with me here for a moment. Maybe Apple brings an Apple Pencil type stylus for the bigger screen iPhone and hence the iPhone 7 Pro. I am making a guess at this after seeing one specific new feature added in iOS 10 this year. This new feature that I am talking about is the support for handwriting experience on iPhone users. With an added stylus to the phone is all that is needed to improve upon that writing experience on iPhones.
Now some of you may feel like it’s blasphemous to say about an iPhone with a Stylus, as Steve Jobs would not have liked it. Maybe, maybe not, as already following in the footsteps of Microsoft’s highly praised 2-in-1 Surface devices which come with kickstand keyboard and Surface Pen Apple last year introduced iPad Pro. The newly launched iPad Pro comes with keyboard and stylus: Apple Pencil.
The Apple Pencil is meant to allow you to write and draw on the iPad Pro’s screen with precision. This could happen and then iPhone has a true fighter against the Note series of Samsung which has created a special place in the market with business and enterprise users.
Two different cameras for a single generation of iPhone
When you are talking about new iPhone and its feature another important feature for iPhone users is its camera. There was a time when iPhone was the leader in the smartphone camera and people swore by the quality of pictures taken by iPhones camera. But the competition started catching up and then came a time when other smartphone manufacturers were able to bring cameras with quality on a level with iPhone even if not being able to beat the iPhone. Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G5 and some other were now able to beat once mighty camera of iPhone.
Apple never believed in the megapixel race for its iPhone camera, and the company took its own sweet time to improve the rear camera from an 8MP to a 12 MP with the launch of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus last year. Also, Apple improved upon the selfie camera with screen flash feature.
This year Apple is making some big changes, in the past, there were reports of Apple going for a dual-camera setup. Now some of the leaked photos have shown a dual-camera setup on the back of the latest iPhone. The dual camera setup is said to have two separate 12MP units. There are other images of the smaller 4.7” iPhone but they are with a single camera on the back, but even that camera is bigger than the camera found on the current generation of iPhones.
The camera size on iPhone 7 is rumoured to be 25% larger than then the one found of iPhone 6s. This increased size in camera is definitely for improving the camera quality and bring the iPhone camera on par with current industry leaders. It may happen that Apple is bringing two totally different camera modules for different screen size. This is nothing new as even though the camera module on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is similar only the Plus model gets OIS feature.
No Home Button on the front and antenna lines on the back. What?
Apple came with a physical Home Button on iPhone and since then it has been an integral part of the legendary device. When Apple decided to bring the fingerprint security into iPhone, it was placed in your faithful and friendly Home Button. While over the years many manufacturers have moved from physical button to capacitive on screen buttons for their phones, Apple stuck with its tried and tested method.
All that may be changing this year, though, don’t get shocked if your new iPhone does not have a physical Home Button. Don’t worry! Home Button is going nowhere it is just that the new iPhones are expected to be coming with a newly designed ‘Home Button’, which is flush with the phone’s screen. To achieve flush Home Button, Apple is expected to drop the physical Home Button and instead there will be capacitive touch area. The leaked images show ring around the Home Button similar to present but we have to wait and see if this is really going to happen.
Antenna lines on the back of the iPhone have divided the Apple fan camp for long. Some people are not happy with those lines and feel they decrease the overall look of the phone but then there are others who don’t care about that and are just as happy to use their iPhones, I for one fall into the second category.
Now Apple is making changes to the positioning of the antenna lines on iPhone. The leaked images of iPhone 7 show a design change which some will definitely like. The new antenna lines can be seen on the top and bottom edge of the phone instead running across the main body of the iPhone, not a big change but this could definitely reduce some frowns from iPhone fans.
No headphone jack with thinner waistline
Now this is a controversial thing which I will discuss later. It has been long rumoured that Apple is working on to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone. Already this year LeEco, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has ditched the 3.5mm jack from its latest released smartphones.
In a video on Chinese site Weibo there is shown a comparison between iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. The video shows the antenna lines and also at the bottom of the phone there is no 3.5mm headphone jack to be seen. The video looks genuine though and the phone showcased has a similar bigger camera on the back that was seen in the leaked images.
There have been leaked images of Apple’s EarPods with 8-pin Lightning connector, check them out in the gallery. From the images it seems there will be an embedded audio DAC in new EarPods for audio digital processing, the ear buds are similar to the ones in the current EarPods from Apple.
Space Black or Deep Blue
Let us step back into time a little bit, in the beginning of iPhone universe, there was only Black colour for the original iPhone. Then came the second iPhone: iPhone 3G and it created a partition in the world with Black and White, the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s followed the Black and White pattern. People were happy with these colour choices for their iPhones. With iPhone 5 Apple changed colours for iPhone and now there was dual tone colour options Black/Slate and White/Silver.
In the year 2013, Apple tried doing something different by bringing colour options in iPhone. That year was the first time when Apple launched two iPhones: iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5s was the premium version that year while iPhone 5c was put as a mid-range iPhone. The first time Apple used the plastic body was with iPhone 5c and a range of colours came with this model Green, Pink, Blue, White and Yellow. The new iPhone 5s came with dual tone Gold, Silver and White. This was the year when Black was retired from the iPhone lineup.
Next year Apple did the unthinkable which its fans were asking for long a big screen iPhone. Apple launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with 4.7” and 5.5” screen size respectively. With iPhone 6/6 Plus Apple introduced Space Grey colour to its line-up.
Then last year iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were launched with an improved camera and 3D Touch technology on board. Not only a faster chip, a better camera, Apple did something dramatic with 6s series of iPhones. There was a new colour to choose from; Apple introduced Rose Gold with the new phones. And this colour choice again divided the fans and mobile industry. Some of the people liked the new colour very much and were in the awe of the new colour from Apple, while for others it was just a shade of Pink, I know some of you may not agree with this but I too think that Rose Gold is just another Pink.
This year there have been rumours of a new colour ‘Deep Blue’ was to be introduced this year. Then came the rumour of ‘Deepest Blue’ shade closer to actual Black. I am pretty happy to see Black to be back for the new iPhones and really hope that this rumour really comes true. I have always like the Black iPhone, don’t know why but it has been this way for long.
A new A10 processor, no 16GB iPhone this year
Every time a new iPhone is showcased to the world sitting inside the new iPhone there is a more powerful processor from the previous generation. This year too seems to be no different as Apple is expected to improve upon the last generation A9 processor and there is a belief that we will see A10 this year with the new iPhone 7. The new iPhone may come with 2GB and 3GB of RAM with the larger one going for the iPhone 7 Plus model.
There is another rumour doing rounds about the smart connector. In the leaked images said to be of iPhone 7 Plus, smart connector pins could be seen on the back. For what these connectors will be used if they really come with the new iPhone is still not known, could it be for Wireless charging we just don’t know. These smart connector pins are not be found on any image of the smaller model so this could also become a differentiating factor between the two models.
With live images capability built in, 4K video recording available on the iPhone there is a need for more storage on iPhone. Apple has been launching the iPhones with 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. There are options for users if they want a bigger storage on iPhone but not all can afford. Most people go with 16GB and then with loads of app, picture and video they end of a very little memory available.
There has been a demand that Apple should bring out the 32GB model for iPhone so without paying legs and livers people can actually get a decent storage option for their data. So now we are getting these rumours along the lines that Apple is doing away with the 16GB version and instead 32GB will be the base model. Pricing for this year’s iPhones is expected to remain same as last year so people are expecting to get a better deal with increased storage while paying the same price.
This is all for today, it has been a lot; almost everything about the un-released unannounced phone is coming out. Now some of these you may like these while others are not as per your expectation, don’t worry these are just rumours and don’t hold your breath just now and wait for the actual phone to launch.
The leaks and rumours are not going to stop until the new iPhone is launched in a few weeks from now. Some of the leaks will be fake some will be genuine we may not be sure which one are the real one but one thing I am sure of is ‘September is coming’ and so is the new iPhone 😉 .
