Talks of Nokia coming back to smartphone market started coming out as soon as the company’s mobile division was bought by Microsoft. Even though Nokia and Microsoft did an agreement regarding Nokia not making a smartphone for next two years, every now and then there would be talks of Nokia smartphone coming to market.
All these news gained traction when the company released its first Android tablet Nokia N in China market in partnership with Foxconn. Fans were still waiting for the smartphone from Nokia to comeback. Then back in 2016, with HMD Global coming to the horizon Nokia branded phones were confirmed to be coming.
At CES this year, HMD Global announced the first Nokia comeback smartphone, the Nokia 6 was announced running Android N. The phone’s launch created a great buzz and since its launch in China market, the company is struggling to keep up the huge demand of the phone from the fans. With the first phone out of the gates, it was just a matter of time more phones coming to the market. Also, Nokia 6 was launched only in China market, and it is not clear as of now when and which markets the company would be expanding.
Nokia is going to make an announcement of its new phones today at Nokia MWC 2017 press event. The company will not only talk about smartphones but virtual reality and even Withings devices. With so much to look forward, the Nokia event is surely going to bring some interesting things today. We will see the company talk about its future plans, strategy as well.
Even though Nokia will be showcasing many different things at its Nokia MWC 2017 event, the most awaited announcement for all is the next step in smartphones. As the MWC approached there have been many leaks of new Nokia phones, namely Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 8, Nokia 9, Nokia P1 and Nokia 3310.
Yes, you read it correct the legendary Nokia 3310 is coming back although not in the same design form and looks. Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 are the other two phones which are expected to be announced by the company today. Both the phones will be Android-based, Nokia 5 is going to be a mid-range phone while Nokia 3 will be an entry-level smartphone. Well, the specs of both the phones are nothing spectacular but with Nokia name and how well the company has made the Nokia 6 and how well the phone has been received by the customers.
The new Nokia 3310 will not be a smartphone, instead, it will be a feature phone running Series 30+, and will be a mix of old Nokia 3310 and Nokia 150. How the new Nokia 3310 looks will be known only when the phone is launched later today but the phone has already created a buzz around. The new Nokia 3310 is expected to be priced at around $60; the phone surely will not be a world winner but using the nostalgia feeling of the fans and that would be enough to create the buzz again for the brand Nokia.
Nokia 3 is expected to come with a 5.2”/5.3” screen with 720p resolution running a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage. The phone is expected to retail as a priced of €149 or INR 10,500 and will be fighting for the entry level segment.
Nokia 5 will come with a Snapdragon 430 Quad-Core processor, Adreno 505 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The phone is expected to have a 13MP rear camera while for selfies and video calling there will be an 8MP front camera. The phone is expected to be priced at €199 which converts to roughly INR 15,000, my best guess the phone would be priced roughly around INR 18,000.
Nokia 8, Nokia 9 and Nokia P1
Other phones from Nokia for which rumors have also come up during this time are Nokia 8, Nokia 9 and Nokia P1. All of these three phones are expected to be high-end devices but HMD will not be releasing these at the MWC event now. The plan may be to create hype around the Nokia branded phones among the fans and bring out the high-end flagship phones then. Whatever Nokia brings out today the event is surely going to bring back some fond memories.
